FATHER BORIS KYBA CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF PRIESTHOOD

June 19, 2016 was a joyous occasion in which clergy, family, friends and parishioners gathered at 4:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Ituna to celebrate Divine Liturgy in honour of Father Boris Kyba’s 50th Anniversary of Ordination to the Priesthood. Celebrants at the Liturgy included: Bishop Bryan Bayda CSsR (Saskatoon), Bishop Michael Wiwchar CSsR (Ituna), Father Larry Kondra CSsR (Winnipeg), Father Boris Kyba CSsR (Ituna), Father Peter Pidskalny CSsR (Ituna), Father Francis Hengen (Yorkton), Father Andre Lalach (Saskatoon), Father Bohdan Lukie CSsR (Yorkton), Father Leonid Malkov CSsR (Saskatoon), Father John Sianchuk CSsR (Winnipeg), Father Michael Smolinski CSsR (Saskatoon) and Father Jeffrey Stephaniuk (Wynyard).
Also visiting were Father Vladimir Kolpakov CSsR (Saskatoon), Sister Nestor Kyba SSMI (Yorkton), Sister Suzanne Kokuruds SSMI (Yorkton), Sister Marijka Konderowicz SSMI (Saskatoon), and Brother Eumir Bautista CSsR (Chicago).
Father John Sianchuk gave the homily, “This is the day the Lord has made, Rejoice and be glad in it”. He spoke of Father Boris’ answering our Lord’s call to Priesthood; the gift Father Boris has given us for the last 50 years.
Following Liturgy, group pictures were taken of the clergy, Altar Servers, family, and members of St. Stanislaus Knights of Columbus 4th degree assembly of Yorkton.
Everyone then proceeded to the Parish Center for cocktails and a banquet. The Master of Ceremonies, Larry Tymiak, welcomed everyone followed by Bishop Bryan Bayda CSsR saying grace. A delicious beef supper was served by members of the Parish. Father Boris then cut the Anniversary Cake.
Mr. Tymiak introduced the head table: Paul and Lynn Kyba, (brother and sister-in-law), Father Larry Kondra CSsR, Bishop Bryan Bayda CSsR, Father Boris Kyba CSsR, Bishop Michael Wiwchar CSsR, Cornelia and Bruce Bobinski (sister and brother-in-law), and Joanna Pidperyhora (sister). The clergy listed above were also introduced.
Greetings were given by Bishop Bryan Bayda CSsR and Father Larry Kondra CSsR. Bishop Bryan presented a plaque to Father Boris, commemorating his 50th Anniversary. Joanna Pidperyhora brought greetings from the family. Greetings were also given by Parish president Terry Korchinski, UCWLC president Priscilla Halipchuk, Geraldine Kaban of St. Mary’s Yorkton, Bob Burak from St. Michael’s Goodeve, and Knights of Columbus Grand Knight Michael Spilchuk.
A slide presentation followed. Father Boris then gave his remarks. He commented on the full church which showed their appreciation for his years of service. He also thanked all who travelled to partake in this celebration. As well, he recalled memories of serving in various parishes. He also spoke about the power of the sacraments.
Father Boris has been involved with Marriage Encounter since 1980. Then, Father Boris thanked his Redemptorist brothers for coming to celebrate the Liturgy with him. He also thanked everyone who has and continues to challenge and inspire him. His final words were “Do the math… count your blessings’
In conclusion, Larry Tymiak graciously thanked Father Boris for his many years of spiritual service. He also thanked the altar servers, choir, sacristan, Father Boris’ family, all of the kitchen workers, ushers, bar workers, door greeters, as well as the Sir Knights who travelled from near and far for making the evening possible. Larry ended by thanking the organizing committee and Father Peter Pidskalny for all of his help.
The evening was concluded with a closing prayer said by Father Peter Pidskalny.
